OPENING SESSIONh. 10:30 a.m.CODEWAY PLENARY - HALL 7BUSINESS AND DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION. THE CHALLENGE OF SUSTAINABILITY AND FOOD SAFETY.Event organized by Codeway Expo, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Prima Foundation
Agri-food systems are essential for the health of our communities and the environment. The spread of incorrect eating patterns and lifestyles contribute to malnutrition and obesity, while production methods do not care enough of the environmental impact of their practice, influencing global warming and loss of biodiversity. The health crisis related to COVID 19 has placed even more attention on the relationships between nutrition, people's health, and the environment. The war in Ukraine is now creating additional and serious difficulties in many countries in terms of higher prices and reduced availability of raw materials and, inevitably, the situation ends up in deeply affecting food security. When we are faced with issues like the above, valuable solutions are needed, clear response in terms of access to food, of well-being of populations. Thus, the future of the Planet can only derive from the spread of virtuous models, such as the Italian agri-food model, based on the support to local productions, resulting from intense connections between territories and communities, centering on the interaction of short supply chains with the wider international ones. Moreover, crucial is the attention to be reserved to the environmental impact and freshness of products, to the correct balancing between tradition and innovation. Italian companies can therefore be protagonists of Italy's international projection strategy on the issue of food safety and sustainability, placing themselves at the center of the debate but also performing a key role in the action that the country will develop in this central sector of Italy’s international cooperation.Fiera Roma, with its Codeway Expo event, in collaboration with MAECI, is strongly determined to place these issues at the center of the inaugural conference of the initiative. The goal being to provide a proactive and operative cut to the international exhibition. In this view, launching Codeway Expo, Fiera Roma stresses the importance of discussing the concrete possible actions to be promoted by the Italian institutional system when cooperating with the private sector. Under this cut, the choice was to make an analysis of a few African Sahel countries, considering all feasible interventions that can be promoted in the target countries, thanks to the expertise of the Italian private sector of the agri-food chain. Sahel is a key area for the future of Africa, a continent that is now one of the main priorities of Italy's foreign policy. The high-level panel of the Opening Session will see the presence of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Marina SERENI, of Emanuela DEL RE, Special Representative of the European Union for Sahel, of Maurizio MARTINA, Deputy Director General of FAO , together with representatives of Italian enterprises active in the food processing and protection sectors, to discuss with representatives from Sahel countries the possible actions that the Italian public and private sector may carry out in support of the food processing sector in the countries of the region.Too many people still find it difficult to access food, in the necessary quantity and quality, and too often our societies experience, at the same time exceeding abundance and unfair lack. INTRODUCE:Luca Voglino, President Investimenti SpA    Monica Lucarelli, Councillor for Productive Activities and Equal Opportunities , Roma CapitalePaolo Orneli, Councillor for Economic Development, Trade and Crafts, University, Research, Start-Up and Innovation Lazio RegionOPENINGMarina Sereni, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International CooperationTHE ROLE OF ENTERPRISEAngelo Riccaboni, President PRIMA Foundation, Barcelona, and Santa Chiara Lab, UniSi, Co-Chair UN SDSN Europe, Paris Co-Chair UN SDSN Europe, ParigiGIVE VOICE TO ENTERPRISESIvano Vacondio, President FederalimentareDino Scanavino, President CIAFabio Massimo Pallottini, President, ItalmercatiPaolo Mascarino, Vice President of Institutional Affairs of Ferrero, V.President of FederalimentareFOCUS SAHEL (Panel)Emanuela Del Re, EU Special Representative for SahelMaurizio Martina, FAO D.General DirectorTESTIMONIALS FROM THE TERRITORYJuan Lucas Restrepo Ibiza, Global Director for Partnerships & Advocacy, CGIAR, Director General, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT

EXPERIENCES OF INNOVATION FOR DEVELOPMENTPresented by AVSIThe Coopen initiative, promoted by Cariplo Foundation and Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, within the framework of the program Innovation for Development, promotes non-profit organizations in the transition towards operational models, projects and even towards "non-conventional" partnerships. The aim is to combine many years of experience on the field with local communities, with new approaches and tools typical of technological and digital innovation. This initiative aims at establishing a participatory path of open innovation to find impact solutions between Italy and Africa. The reference territories have been identified in East Africa (Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia) and in West Africa (Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger). Thanks to the initiative, teams of Italian and African innovators have been selected and twinned with organizations from the civil society to identify innovative and sustainable products and services, to give solution to problems in key areas: Circular Economy, Agriculture and Sustainable Food, Health and Wellness.AVSI participated in the program through a partnership with an innovative company in the recycling of organic waste in Uganda named Marula Porteen. Thanks to the project, farmers in rural areas on the outskirts of Kampala were able to access the cheap organic fertilizers produced by the company that transforms organic waste into fertilizers, using the Soldier Fly.BeEntrepreneurs, an association promoting innovative start-ups in Africa, also took part in the program.Moderates:Massimo Zaurrini, Africa & AffariSpeakers:Alessandro Masciadri,  Cariplo FoundationFrancesca Oliva, AVSI FoundationTommie Hooft van Huijsduijnen,  Marula ProteenDamiano Petruzzella, Scientific Administrator, CIHEAM di BariLina Guglielmino, Cariplo Factory

h. 10:30 a.m.CODEWAY PLENARY - HALL 7EDUCATION, HIGH-LEVEL TRAINING AND CREATION OF PROFESSIONAL SKILLS: THE LEVERS OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENTOrganized by Codeway Expo, Enel Foundation, Internationalia
In recent years, the world of international cooperation has profoundly changed addressing the need to change direction, moving from actions aimed at "bringing help" towards a dimension oriented to "bringing development", promoting sustainable economic growth, social inclusion, and local equity, increasing thus the positive repercussions for the local communities of the so called universal education, and specifically high value-added training programs and the development of targeted professional skills. In this sense, while recognizing the absolute and basic importance of the access to universal education, it is essential to also proceed in the direction of developing high level profiles, both in the public sphere (i.e. university, regulatory) and for the private sector. This in a perspective of training the skills necessary to make the African continent make the qualitative leap which is essential to achieve a sustainable future, and unlock all the advantages that the ecological transition implies.Crucial appears then the necessity to work on the dissemination of training and teaching techniques and tools, to promote access to quality education, to develop professional technical training to respond to the needs of emerging markets and local economies to prepare their youth to actively contribute to the sustainable growth of their own countries. In this sense, it is essential to set up interventions based on the concept of give back, to allow those who benefited such opportunities for growth in the past to pour the acquired skills onto the economic and social fabric of their local community, to successfully face the challenges of our times and those of the future. From this perspective, training can and must be a lever for change and sustainable development of peoples. At Codeway Expo, the profit and non-profit actors of international cooperation, the institutions academia will discuss on this.Moderates: Massimo Zaurrini, Director, Africa e AffariSpeakers::Carlo Papa, Managing Director, Enel FoundationIzael da Silvia, Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Research and Innovation, Strathmore University Showing Video African Youth Project:https://video.repubblica.it/green-and-blue/dossier/cop26/afritech-verso-un-africa-dove-ognuno-possa-avere-l-elettricita/399058/399770Filippo Prosperi, Business Development Director, De Lorenzo SpaFrancesca Fiorino, Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS)Biagio Di Terlizzi, Deputy DirectorAlberto Piatti, Head of Sustainable Development, ENIPatrizia Spada, Head of Project Design TAMAT

The increasingly massive impact of man's actions on his own habitat leads us today to rethink our economic models.By orienting production and consumption systems towards the principles of sustainability. The theme of the ecological transition is today central within the European debate and in the post-Covid recovery plans (including economic ones). The challenge is to make economic development coexist with an improvement in life quality with the urge of environmental protection. The panel aims at focusing the attention on the urgency of global governance coordinating to favor the ecological transition, even and more than ever in emerging countries. But what is happening in these countries? What are the prerequisites and economic resources available to favor a "just" ecological transition? What are the possible collaborations between profit and non-profit to push the transition? Moderates: Massimo Zaurrini, Africa & AffariSpeakers:Luigi Di Marco, Member of the Operational Coordination of ASviS and Referent of the Working Groups on Goals 6-14-15 and 7-13Maria Teresa Pisani, UN CEFATMichael Riedl, Senior Analyst, International Cooperation, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti  Silvio Gentile, Ceo & Founder Green Utility SpADaniele Gizzi, Head of Environment and Circular Economy Sector Confartigianato ImpreseGiorgio Barbaglia, Responsabile Energie Rinnovabili Africa , Programma DREAM, Comunità di Sant'EgidioConclusions:Roberto Colaminè, Vice Direttore DGCS Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione InternazionaleLuca Maestripieri, Director of AICS - Italian Agency for Development CooperationWladimiro Boccali, Codeway coordinator
