TVET Africa Index 2025Empowering Africa’s Youth through TVET: Skills, Jobs, and Opportunities for a Changing ContinentOrganized by De Lorenzo14:00 - 15:00 | Hall 1
Africa is undergoing a profound demographic transformation: every year, tens of millions of young people enter the labour market in search of dignified employment and future prospects. In this context, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems are increasingly seen as strategic tools to bridge the skills gap, drive industrial growth, and reduce unemployment—especially among youth and women. Recent data, including a new study by Internationalia and De Lorenzo SpA, reveal both the promising momentum and the structural challenges facing TVET across the continent: increased enrolment rates, growing political and financial commitment, and encouraging employability outcomes in certain regions, yet also persistent gender disparities, negative perceptions, and uneven training quality. This high-level panel will explore how public-private cooperation, international partnerships, and investment in TVET systems can contribute to transforming Africa’s demographic boom into an economic dividend.A particular focus will be placed on Italy-Africa cooperation, the role of industry, and how innovation in equipment, curricula and certification can create meaningful pathways to employment.

Italian cooperation for the development of ethical fashion: sustainable plots for Africa-Italy partnershipsOrganized by AICS14:30 - 16:30 | Hall 2
Italian development cooperation is committed to promoting decent work in the textile and manufacturing sector, focusing in particular on workers' rights, including freedom of association, the fight against child labor, health and safety at work, living wages and the right to social and legal protection, strengthening the private sector of partner countries. To achieve effective progress in terms of sustainability in this sector, a wide range of actors are involved in the various cooperation initiatives: from public authorities to trade unions, buyers and suppliers, consumers, local businesses, and the international community. In the textile value chain, which is interconnected, complex and global, “moving the needle” towards ethical fashion means creating a systemic change guided by science with a common destination of circularity. The fashion/textile supply chain, precisely because of its intrinsic nature, is a supply chain that can generate operating margins that allow, if managed with a view to sustainability, to pay adequate living wages, following a strong investment in training, in capacity development, or sustainable socio-economic development. The proposed panel aims to deepen the Africa-Italy synergies for ethical and sustainable global textile chains. It will be important to reflect, in the immediate future, on the relationship between sustainability, textile/manufacturing sector and development cooperation, also in light of the European regulatory framework, deepening the commitment of small Italian businesses in the textile-clothing sector in managing the social and environmental aspects of their activities, with a view to a transition to a transparent and sustainable textile supply chain.

Investing in Senegal: Opportunities and Perspectives for profit-nonprofit partnershipsOrganized by AMREF15:30 - 16:30 | Hall 1
Amref aims to build on the "Invest in Senegal" model, already recognized by AICS, to position itself as a strategic partner for Italian companies interested in investing in Africa. The goal is to create valuable partnerships that combine economic returns with social impact, mitigating risks through in-depth knowledge of local contexts and communities. The intervention methodology, already tested in Senegal, is scalable and applicable to other African countries, offering new opportunities for shared economic and social development within the broader framework of the Mattei Plan. A distinctive element is the involvement of African diasporas in Italy, who serve as a bridge between Italian companies and their countries of origin. This is a concrete example of collaboration between NGOs and businesses to ensure equity and generate shared value for all stakeholders.
